About Ingrid Lustig
The High Desert region of Oregon is my place. Raptors, coyotes, wolves, long open spaces, and gritty sage. All my work comes from this land.
When we see a hawk soaring or a coyote disappearing into brush, most of us are thrilled – in that moment we feel awestruck by our primal connection to the wild. This fleeting sense of wildness is what I want in my work.
Painting is a visual language. When I speak in this language, I paint loosely and quickly. Happily I use accidents and instant inspirations to build up layers and create relationships between color, strokes, and shapes to create an image. This keeps energy moving – a metaphor for the energy of the animal – even though the painting can only reflect a moment.
